Anil Madhav Dave was a well known environmentalist and member of Bharatiya Janata Party. Dave made notable contribution in conserving river Narmada from pollution. A Member of Parliament, he was Minister of State (MoS) independent charge of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in the Modi Government.
Born on July 6, 1956 at Badnagar in the Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, Dave completed his master's degree in commerce from Gujarati College, Indore, specializing in Rural Development and Management. Later he participated in the JP Movement, and was elected the college president. Dave was known for his concern for nature. He is credited for organizing the international river festival at Bandrabhan to create awareness among people about conserving rivers. A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) man, Dave was a three-time Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. Well known for his acumen and hardworking skill, he was a confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was chairman of the Select Committee on on Coal Mines (Special Provision) Bill, 2015, and the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Bill, 2015. Dave was appointed as the Minister of State (MoS) independent charge of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in July last year.
Dave died on 18 May 2017 at a hospital in Delhi. He was 60 years old.
Death of Anil Dave was mourned by many eminent personalities. Both President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock at the sudden demise of this popular leader of Madhya Pradesh.
